This morning was all over the place, to say the least, but we covered some important ground. Remember, it’s all for science.

I’ve had a gym membership since December and I’ve been a total of 3 times. I’m not proud. Not only that, but as of last week, I now have two year memberships to area gyms. You’re much more likely to see me out and about Glens Falls and Saratoga on my bike than in a spin class.

My favorite tips from womenshealth.com were the following:

Get a vacation on the books ASAP. Beach season is so close, you can practically smell the sunscreen already. Most people rev up their workout routines right before taking a big trip, so wherever you’re going this summer, get your reservations nailed down as soon as you can. Not only will thinking of your trip give you that extra push you need to get through a tough workout, but it also gives you a deadline you can’t cheat.

Leave important things in your gym locker If you accidentally-on-purpose forget to bring your hairdryer and make-up bag home after a gym sesh, you’ll be forced to go back the next day to get ready.

Start a work-buddy system: People plan to get their sweat on after work, but then talk themselves out of it by 5 p.m. With crazy deadlines, last-minute meetings and the like, your workplace is booby-trapped with gym-bailing temptations-so you need allies to stay strong. Find a few people in the office with similar fitness goals, and make a pact to keep tabs on each other. Tell them to make sure you leave at X time so you make your workout-and vice-versa. Then follow up to keep each other accountable.

Granted, I don’t know that womenshealth is where I should be looking for advice.

A new study suggests that a woman’s purse may contain as much bacteria as the average toilet. As if I weren’t already terrified of those things. It’s of some natural human male instinct that we’re so scared of those things — and it’s not about germs. Like Steve at Carriage Traders said, “they carry their lives in those things.” It’s not something to be messed with. I’m not comfortable fetching something from a purse even when I have permission to do so! Can someone explain this to me?

Have you ever pulled something out of your purse and asked how long has this been in here? Why do I have this? What is this? We asked you what the most random item in your purse was RIGHT NOW. The Top 3 awards this morning go to:

Jane – A Spanish puppy passport

Anastasia - A spark plug extraction tool

Pam – An ice cream scooper

Nearing the end of the show I took a look at a list of the most popular arguments for mother’s and teenage daughters. Thinking about my sister, 8 years younger than I, and the torturous life she had that she couldn’t stay out late, she hated all her clothes, etc. You know, teenage girl probems.

The top five are:

Tidiness of bedroom

Answering back

Relationship with siblings

Relationships with boys

Staying out too late

The Hits Hot Reheated Breakfast

April 30th, 2013

That’s #7 on Insurance.com’s list of the Top Excuses For Avoiding A Ticket. Here’s the rest of the list:

I couldn’t see the sign telling me not to do it: 20.5%.

I’m lost and unfamiliar with the roads: 15.6%.

I didn’t know it was broken: 12.4%.

Everyone else was doing it: 6.4%.

I’m having an emergency situation in my car: 5.4%.

I missed my turn/exit: 4.8%.

I had to go to the bathroom: 4.6%.

I didn’t do anything dangerous: 4.2%.

I was on my way to an emergency. (to help someone who is ill or injured.): 4%.

My GPS said it was the right thing to do: 2.2%.

I’m just helping out; I wasn’t even supposed to be driving: 2%.

While some are more believable than others, I think there’s something really interesting to be observed here. When faced with the possibility of receiving a ticket, people resort to child-like instincts. The two that really stand out to me are “everyone else was doing it” and “I didn’t do anything dangerous.” How do either of these two excuses found any sort of argument that what you were doing was wrong and/or not illegal? And yet, I would be inclined to say the same thing!

from Reddit user childoftheatom

On a lighter note, we’re only 12 days from Mother’s Day. Don’t forget!

Join me during the Hits Hot Breakfast tomorrow morning for a special announcement on how Hits 95.9 is going to help you reward your mom this Mother’s Day. Be sure to check back here as well for details.

Today is National Oatmeal Cookie Day, International Jazz Day, National Raisin Day and National Honesty Day. To quote myself from our facebook page, “Honestly, the raisin is getting way too much credit today.” Ken Leccese makes his oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips. I like his way of thinking.

I think it’s worth noting that it was on this date in 1904 that the ice cream cone was invented. It was also on this date in 1945 that Hitler died. A coincidence? I think not. I don’t know what correlation I’m trying to draw here, but I’ll leave that to interpretation.

A new survey by the University of New South Wales reveals that men with 10 days of beard growth are viewed by women as the sexiest. Men with 5 days of light stubble are viewed by women as the least sexy. What exactly happens between day 5 and 10, we’ll never know. This is funny — I was just talking about this the other day with my girlfriend. “It’s science,” she proclaimed…and I guess she’s right?

All that I can gather from this picture is that I’ve gained weight. There ought to be a poll.

[contact-form]

Aha! There we go. Yes, I did just take a selfie in the office.

Have a great Tuesday!

With just two days left until Mother’s Day, it was time to announce the winner of the Hits 95.9 Awesome Mom Giveaway. The giveaway asked listeners to enter their Mom for the chance at the prize pack valued at $400. We just wanted to know, why is your Mom awesome?

It really was a joy to read about all of these wonderful people. Like I said in the clip above, there was no Mom more awesome than another. No Mom is more awesome than your own Mom, am I right? We chose Jenny and her mother Debbie because her entry really addressed what we felt it meant to be a mom. She sounds like a caring, loving, and selfless mother to four children and their children. Selflessness was a common theme amongst the entries. Moms are always there for us and always putting our interests and needs before their own.

A huge thanks to all whom participated and a very Happy Mother’s Day from Hits 95.9!

Happy May 1st! Like Steve at Carriage Traders said, “If this is any indication of how May will look…” Could we have asked for a nicer day? It’s only just begun and I’m looking forward to getting outside. From my personal Facebook page:

Another big thanks to person that threw their beer bottle on Bay Road last fall! I’ve had a flat tire every bike ride since. I’m headed to the bike shop to buy new tires today! On the bright side, I’m getting awesome at patching/changing tires.

That’s not to say that I keep riding over the same bottle of beer, but that the tire was damaged in some non-obvious way so that it keeps inducing the flats. Major bummer, but I can’t wait any longer when the weather’s this wonderful. So wonderful that I found myself searching for synonyms of “abundant” to use in the forecast. I thought “copious amounts of sunshine” had a nice ring to it.

As always, lots of reasons to celebrate. Today is Mother Goose Day, School Principal’s Day, National Chocolate Parfait Day, Global Love Day and Save The Rhino Day.

Mark me down for chocolate parfait day — celebrating that one shouldn’t be too easy. When possible, I like to celebrate these silly holidays. See my beautiful creation from National Shrimp Scampi Day.

On this date in 1931, the Empire State Building opened for the first time in New York and on this date in 1947, airplane radar was used for the first time. Keeping with the flight theme, today’s incorrectly answered Cash Call question was “who was the first US pilot to fly around the globe?” Bryan guessed “Amelia Earhart.” She didn’t make it.

The answer is Wiley Post…but to Bryan’s credit, neither Jenny Lewis nor I had heard of that name before. They must have skipped over that lesson in school. BTW, that puts the Cash Call pot up to $230.16.

May 1st means 4 days left til Cinco De Mayo and 11 left til Mother’s Day. Check out the Hits 95.9 Awesome Mom Giveaway if you’re looking to get your mom something really special this year. Rather than tell you more about what the surveys are saying moms want (spoiler alerts: it’s gifts of a sentimental nature/days off/spa treatments), I asked you what the worst Mother’s Day gift would be. Here’s what we came up with:

A Vacuum

Kitchen Appliances

Jumper Cables

A Weed Whacker

An arrest warrant

Membership for Jelly-of-the-month-club

The last two courtesy of Peter Cloutier. The question on our Facebook page garnered this response from Rosalee:

I think the worst mothers day gift would be no gift at all or last year my daughter gave my mothers day gift that she made in school to my ex ( her father)

Awkward.

Enjoy the weather! You never know, it could snow next week.

-Jason Ross

April 29th, 2013

Happy Monday! It’s also National Shrimp Scampi Day, Zipper Day and International Dance Day. Try to celebrate those three all at once! We honor Godeon Sundbach, of Hoboken, New Jersey, who patented the zipper on this date in 1913. I’m not ashamed to admit I caught mine undone once this morning and laughed at the coincidence. We’re nearing Mother’s Day (just 13 days away!), don’t forget to get something for Mom! That’s an important one not-to-forget.

This date in history also (allegedly) saw the creation of the world’s longest sausage. In 1995, a sausage measuring 28.77 miles was cooked up in Kitchener, Ontario…seems fitting. My curiousity got the best of me on this one and I went to ‘the google’ for an image…

What I found is that there have been a number of attempts at breaking this record and that Kitchener does not hold it, according to the Guiness Book of World Records. That titled belongs to the city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK for their 36.75 mile long sausage. Sometimes I wonder what I’m doing with my life when others are making sausages that could stretch from here to Clifton Park.

I’m hungry.

Anyway, we say happy birthday to Uma Thurman (43), Michelle Pfeiffer (55), Daniel Day-Lewis( 56), and Jerry Seinfeld (59). In movie land we saw the promise of a huge blockbuster turnout for Iron Man 3, which made $195.3 million with an overseas debut. I’m not a huge superhero-movie fan, but I do enjoy them. Also confirmation that ‘Rocky’ is being turned into a Broadway play — honestly that sounds awesome. It was this date in 1996 that Rent first hit Broadway. I have to say, it’s an awesome production to see live. That movie didn’t do it any justice.

I spent a lot of time talking about a study done by Western Illinois University reveals that couples, who ‘tag’ each other in photos on Facebook are closer in real life. This led into discussion about tagging photos on Facebook in general. Do you know someone who obsessively tags photos? What are the unspoken rules of Facebook-photo-tagging? It happens to me all too often that I log on to find a notifcation – you’ve been tagged by so and so in 35,000 photos. You know the feeling…how many people have seen how terrible I look in this photo? see below.

Though, I could see that hairstyle becoming a thing.

I like the way that Jenny Lewis sees things. Tag one or two photos of an album that you deem ‘good’ and allow your friends to tag themselves as they please beyond that point. Use your better judgement. Also, don’t tag someone who isn’t the focal point of the photo (unless they’re doing something hilarious).

One last thing to touch upon, the dream job. London college student Sebastian Smith has landed a $30,000-a-year job as a water slide tester for a travel company. A what? What is this guy, and expert on having fun? I’m aware of the various measures of testing safety and physics that go into waterside building, but isn’t that an engineer’s job? The job includes all-expense paid trips to Faliraki, Turkey and Jamaica. Where is Faliraki? I mentioned a friend’s father who photographs for cruise lines as having a pretty ideal ‘dream job.’ What’s your dream job?

Oh, and the cash call pot is up to $172.62! Catch ya tomorrow!

-Jason Ross

I never thought I’d say it, but I’m happy to give the MPA to Kid Rock. In preparation for his $20 Best Night Ever tour, Kid Rock shared his thoughts on the cost of Justin Timberlake’s and Jay-Z’s summer tour, the Legends of Summer Tour. In an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan, he called it “garbage” and “highway robbery,” with prices like $275 for a non-VIP ticket.

The cost per ticket to see Kid Rock? $20 — hence the tour’s name…

So how does that work out? Well, Kid Rock opted to take a little pay cut to make things more affordable for his fans. Things like $4, 12oz beers. Just kidding, it’s a huge pay cut; one as much as $50,000 to $100,000 per night. PER NIGHT!

Love him or hate him, it’s great to see a musician that still cares deeply about his fans and know’s what it’s all about! According to Reddit user /u/itstheriz, “He actually puts on a great live show. I don’t understand the hate on him, hes not bad at all.”

Just for that, I played some “Cowboy” in the 8 o’clock hour for ya, Kid Rock. When’s the last time that’s happened?
